Dear School of Sport and Exercise Science graduate,

We would like to let you know about our Alumni Event – ‘Meet the Graduates’ – that we will be hosting at the University’s School of Sport & Exercise Science, Biomechanics Lab, on Tuesday 10th May, 4:30-7:00pm. This is an annual event designed to give current students an insight into life after university and the opportunity to benefit from the knowledge and experience of our graduates.

We are looking for a number of alumni to join our face-to-face event, who would be prepared to share details of their career progress since graduating from the University of Lincoln, in order to inspire students about the careers that are possible with their degree. The proposed format is slightly different to what you may remember: rather than having a lengthy initial round of individual introductions followed by a chance for students and graduates to mingle, we are hoping to be able to share short video introductions and bios in advance so we can get straight to the one-to-one interactions. We hope this will help students do some research in advance and will also mean that they can join the event at any time without missing out on information.

We are hoping to have a panel that is a good balance between those working in sport or health-related fields and those who have pursued different career paths, so that our current students’ aspirations are not limited. Your experiences would, for example, be of great interest and I was wondering therefore whether you might consider joining us this year? The proposed schedule would be:

  • 4:30-5:00pm – Arrival of graduates to the Biomechanics lab in the Human Performance Centre (HPC) at the University of Lincoln
  • 5:00-7:00pm – Students arrive, Informal networking among students, graduates, and staff. Refreshments will be provided.
  • 7:00pm – Departure

The alumni event is very informal and there would be no need to prepare slides or information sheets etc. It would just be great for students to hear about your experiences and chat to you about any aspect of your journey (and/or their own ideas and plans!)

If you would like any further information, we would be very happy to answer any questions you might have. We really hope that you will be able to join us in person and look forward to hearing from you soon with a response. We do appreciate, however, that not everyone will be able to attend on the day. If you cannot but would still like to support current students then please let us know if you might be able to provide a short video introduction, bio and contact details, so that interested students can still interact with you. We will integrate those into the profiles provided to students. The video introductions for everyone will be very informal: we’ll suggest a few questions and your responses could be recorded on a phone etc.!

Kind Regards,

Michelle Manby (mmanby@lincoln.ac.uk)
